Schram Road – Copper Ridge Road to 234th Street

Project Description

Schram Road improvements from Copper Ridge Road to 234th Street, is identified as an Improvement project under the Connect Sarpy – Arterial Street Improvement Program. Construction is scheduled to begin July 2023. The Program defines Improvement as the grading and paving of an existing gravel roadway. Specifically, improvements include:

  • Removing the two-lane aggregate surface road, regrading, and replacing it with two-lane PC concrete pavement.

  • Improving shoulders and reconstructing existing driveway connections

  • Extending a box culvert under the new road

  • Removing, replacing, or reconstructing existing driveway culverts

  • Removing and replacing trees within the construction limits of the project

Purpose & Need - Continuing Phase 2 development of The Estates at WynnWood subdivision is contingent on completing Schram Road Improvements per the City of Gretna requirements.

Project Location Description - The existing Schram Road gravel roadway (225th to 231st) is the only vehicular access route to The Estates at WynnWood, that avoids driving through the Copper Ridge subdivision located east of the subdivision.  Various sections of Schram Road will be closed, while other sections will be open, during phased construction of the project.

Project Benefits -

  • Improves Schram Road's safety and functionality

  • Upgrades a county transportation asset

  • Facilitates the start of The Estates at WynnWood Phase 2

  • Reduces traffic through the adjacent Copper Ridge subdivision

Project Updates

3/21/24 Update — Phase 2 paving is scheduled to start the week of March 25, 2024, pending weather.

12/21/23 Update — On Wednesday, December 21, Schram Road from 229th Street to just west of the cemetery closed for road improvements. This is Phase 2 of the Schram Road project. K2 Construction plans to grade the road, then rerock it every evening until grading is complete, which is expected to take about a week. Following grading, K2 will rock the surface so that residents along the Phase 2 route can access their properties during the winter.
Phase 1 is now open. Because construction activity continues to take place, please use caution in the area. Residents who live along the Phase 1 route may place their mailboxes in their front yard and K2 Construction will reinstall them.

October 2023 Update — Project Update: Phase 1 paving to start October 21.

7/7/23 Update — The Schram Road project start date has been pushed to Monday, July 17. The delay is due to adverse weather conditions.

6/28/23 Update — On Wednesday, July 5, Schram Road from 229th Street to Copper Ridge Road will close for road improvements. This closure will allow for phase 1 of a three-phase project to pave the currently-gravel Schram Road west of City of Gretna.
Local traffic along Schram will maintain access to their properties via a temporary road parallel to Schram. All other detour traffic is encouraged to use Angus Road or Capehart Road.
This closure is expected to last five months. It will reopen before phase 2 begins. Please use caution in the area.

Proposed Schedule

Design: Summer/Fall 2022
ROW/Easement Acquisition: Spring/Summer 2022/2023
Construction: Summer 2023
Anticipated Completion: Summer 2024

Please note

  • Under this phasing plan, one phase of the project will open before closing the next phase. Two phases will not be under construction at the same time.

  • Local traffic to properties located along Schram Road in the construction area will have through access via a temporary road along the north side of Schram Road. Access will be open to one-way local traffic during Phases 1 and 2.

  • The Schram Road and Copper Ridge Road intersection will remain open to local traffic.

  • During Phase 1, construction traffic to Wynnwood Estates should use 229th Street and Schram Road to access the Wynnwood development.
