Platteview Road Expressway

Project Description

Sarpy County is taking an important step toward providing a well-thought-out and connected east-west corridor from U.S. 75 to Interstate 80. As the fastest growing county in the state, Sarpy County is proactively planning for increased traffic demands. To balance economic benefits with projected traffic volumes, this modern corridor will efficiently move people and goods through southern Sarpy County.

Benefits of the Platteview Road Expressway:

  • A modern corridor that meets current design standards

  • Increased capacity for current and anticipated future traffic volumes

  • Improved east-west connectivity and efficient traffic movement

  • Enhanced mobility for people and goods

You can view the general area where the Platteview Road Expressway may be situated on the map below.

An updated map with the project alignment is coming soon.

Designing in segments

Preliminary design for a new four-lane expressway from US-75 to I-80 in southern Sarpy County has already begun. The work includes a new four-lane roadway, providing access control, realignment near the 36th Street, 42nd Street, and 84th Street intersections, and a southern bypass around the City of Springfield that continues west along Pflug Road.

Interim Improvements

While Platteview Road Expressway design is underway, Sarpy County is evaluating and constructing interim improvements along Platteview Road to improve traffic operations and extend the longevity of the road. A summary or links to active projects can be found below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the project funded?

Sarpy County is exploring strategic funding sources.

How could my property be impacted by the project?

The project team will work to minimize the amount of right-of-way needed; However, temporary and permanent right-of-way will be necessary to build the expressway. Once funding for future phases has been identified, staff will contact affected property owners to discuss the right-of-way process and answer any questions property owners may have.

How does the Platteview Road Expressway project fit in with the Sarpy County and Cities Wastewater Project?

The Sarpy County and Cities Wastewater Agency is also planning to build a force main to provide public wastewater infrastructure in the area. The two projects are being closely coordinated as portions of the force main will run parallel to the Platteview Road Expressway. More information about the wastewater project is available on the agency's website.

What was the Platteview Road Public Planning Workshop in 2015 and how does it connect to the current project?

The Platteview Road Public Planning Workshop in 2015 determined the road’s function as a major east-west corridor between Highway 31 and US-75. The study analyzed transportation and land-use options along the entire corridor to determine potential impacts of future development and to identify transportation strategies. The workshop did not provide preliminary or final design engineering. The Platteview Road Expressway project builds on the results of the 2015 workshop and helped Sarpy County perform preliminary design engineering for the Platteview Road corridor.

Will a trail be included in the CONNECTSARPY: Platteview Road Expressway project?

The option for a trail is currently being evaluated.
